Do you want to live up to 94 years old?
tl;dr: live well, live long. Intentionally.
David Sinclair, a longevity researcher, always asks this question: do you want to live up to 100 years?
Most people don’t raise their hands at first, as they assume a very specific (and often unpleasant) way of getting old.
Then he asks again with a twist: healthy and doing what you love?
Then most raise their hands.
Today, Warren Buffet announced his retirement. He’s 94 years old and, as he said, he’s been privileged to work with friends his entire life.
Do you want to live that long? And work that long?
If we use Charlie Munger’s principle of inversion: do you want to die early? Why?
What changes could you make so you’d want to live (and maybe work) until 94?
What’s holding you back from enjoying your life? Is it really external circumstances?
I’d guess most people reading this are somehow in a privileged position and might have the power to change their lives for the better by taking time to reflect and act on what really matters to them.
It doesn’t matter if you want to work a lot, travel a lot, enjoy doing nothing, or whatever you prefer.
What matters is being intentional about what you want to do—and doing it.
What could you change starting next Monday that would improve your life right now?
Don’t trade future happiness for present misery. We never know which day will be our last.
