Know a lot about a little

tl;dr: focus and skip the rest

Many times people said to me "You know a lot of things about everything" and every time I say: "No, I know a lot about a few things but these things are usually the things I'm talking about."

Many lessons here:

  • You don't need to have knowledge about everything
  • You don't need to give your opinion about everything
  • You need to know a lot about few things

Ask my wife (by the way, her birthday is today; happy birthday, my love) how many times I say, "I don't have any opinion about this."

Of course, she hates this answer but I don't have the obligation of coming up with an opinion about everything that is asked to me. I can refuse to have an opinion and that is amazing!

Watch this conversation between Mohnish Pabrai and Shaan Puri. Mohnish is excellent, you can learn a lot with him, and in this specific conversation he said many times about how few instances of something can have a significant impact.

So here is my provocation for you today: What are you doing that you could just avoid entirely?

Choose your battles carefully and be happy! Tomorrow is Mother's day so enjoy with your mother if she is still around, one day she won't be.
